Land Rover empezó a fabricar, en 1948, un modelo con la denominación Defender destinado la venta al público. Desde entonces y hasta enero de 2016, que es cuando se dejó de producir, ha tenido diversas modificaciones.
Actualmente, el Land Rover Defender tiene un nuevo motor turbodiésel de 122 CV y estrena una habitáculo renovado, con cambios de aspecto y funcionales.

Land Rover began to manufacture, in 1948, a model with the name Defender for sale to the public. Since then and until January 2016, which is when production ceased, it has undergone several modifications, the last one in 2007. The following text was written regarding that 2007 update and when it was still for sale as a new vehicle:
 
Currently, the Land Rover Defender has a new 122 hp turbodiesel engine and debuts a renewed cabin, with appearance and functional changes. On the outside, with respect to the previous one, only the hood changes.
